The World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program (YPP) offers exceptional professionals the opportunity to apply their specialized technical expertise, broaden their experience, and contribute to solutions to pressing development challenges. YPs work across the World Bank Group in support of the mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet, completing rotations to deepen technical and operational knowledge and develop as future leaders in global development.

Responsibilities

• Complete three eight-month rotations: one with primary function and area of expertise, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one rotation based in a country office
• Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and institutions to address pressing development challenges and improve lives
• Participate in the YP Academy structured learning and development journey including technical and operational training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development
• Receive individual coaching, connect with mentors, and participate in strategic dialogues with senior leaders

Requirements

• Minimum of a masters-level degree in a relevant field
• 2-6 years of relevant professional experience
• Demonstrated technical depth, technical breadth, expertise and experience in most of the following areas: finance (including commercial or investment banking, international financial institutions, export credit agencies, private equity, insurance), corporate development/mergers & acquisitions, management consulting, and/or financial advisory, preferably related to emerging markets
• Strong financial, credit, and underwriting/risk assessment skills; sound business judgment, and preferably experience related to negotiating financial or guarantee/insurance contracts
• Extensive knowledge of emerging markets finance and economic development, as well as high-level understanding of political and sovereign risk, and financial/insurance products used to mitigate such risks
• Experience in portfolio supervision, project management, and investor relations, with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes is a plus
• Experience in product development, innovation, or process improvement within financial or operational contexts is a plus
• Capacity to synthesize complex information and present actionable insights
• Proficiency in digital tools and platforms including Excel, Power BI, SQL, and/or market intelligence systems such as Bloomberg, Dealogic, and Debt Domain
• Leadership potential, including accountability and results orientation, ability to influence and inspire results, and manage self, projects, people and results
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills: quantitative, qualitative, analytical, strategic; and sound business judgment
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner
• Flexibility and adaptability to working in complex multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural contexts
• Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages would be an advantage
