The World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program offers exceptional professionals the opportunity to apply their technical expertise and contribute to development challenges. Young Professionals work across the World Bank Group in support of the mission to end poverty and promote sustainable development, completing rotations to deepen knowledge and gain experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation, supervision, and implementation of energy operations, including investment projects, Program-for-Results operations, and technical assistance activities.
• Contribute to policy and analytical work on energy sector reforms, utility performance and financial sustainability, tariffs and subsidies, institutional arrangements, regulation, and market development.
• Undertake data analysis, economic and financial assessments, and background research to inform project design, policy dialogue, and country or regional energy strategies.
• Support work on renewable energy integration, transmission and distribution, regional power trade, energy efficiency, decarbonization, energy access, and relevant emerging technologies, including hydrogen, storage, and carbon capture, use and storage.
• Prepare concise, high-quality briefing notes, presentations, aide-memoires, analytical inputs, and contributions to project and advisory documents.
• Engage, as part of task teams, with governments, utilities, regulators, private sector stakeholders, international organizations, civil society, and development partners.
• Coordinate multiple assignments across teams, countries, and sub-sectors while maintaining quality, responsiveness, and a strong focus on development impact.

Requirements

• Minimum of a master’s degree in energy economics, engineering, public policy, finance, economics, environmental policy, planning, or a closely related field.
• 2-6 years of relevant professional experience in energy, infrastructure, development finance, public policy, consulting, utilities, regulation, or related areas.
• Relevant experience in at least one energy sub-sector, such as power systems, renewable energy, energy efficiency, project finance, decarbonization technologies, utility reform, or energy policy and regulation.
• Strong grounding in one or more areas such as power sector planning, utility financial analysis, electricity markets, transmission and distribution, renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, project finance, economic analysis, sector reform, or regional energy trade.
• Ability to understand and engage credibly on public and private sector perspectives in developing-country contexts.
• Proven ability to contribute to project operations, policy analysis, analytical work, advisory services, or technical assistance.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate evidence into practical policy and operational recommendations.
• Project management and organizational skills, including the ability to scope assignments, coordinate with multiple teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Ability to engage constructively in policy dialogue and client-facing work with government counterparts, utilities, regulators, private sector partners, international organizations, civil society, and development partners.
• Proven ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and to act as a connector across technical and operational perspectives.
• Demonstrated interest in international development, the WBG mission and values, sustainable energy access, and the energy transition as drivers of inclusive economic growth.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is an advantage.
