The WBG Pioneer internship offers a high impact learning experience supporting the World Bank's Digital & AI team in Egypt. The intern will provide research, analytical, and communications support across digital and AI topics to help accelerate Egypt's digital transformation agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and prepare analytical notes, policy briefs, and background papers on priority digital and AI topics in Egypt (e.g., AI governance, digital public infrastructure, data policy, digital skills).
  • Benchmark Egypt's digital progress against regional and global peers using standard development indicators and international frameworks.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project documents, technical notes, aide-mémoires, and stakeholder presentations for ongoing TA and proposed PforR preparation.
  • Support the organization and documentation of technical workshops, consultations, and working group meetings with government counterparts, development partners, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Draft and edit communications and knowledge products in both English and/or Arabic, including policy summaries, program briefs, and stakeholder updates.
  • Review and quality-assure key program documents to ensure accuracy and accessibility for Egyptian government counterparts.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master's or PhD program in Economics, Public Policy, Computer Science, Information Systems, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in both English and Arabic - candidates may be assessed on writing samples in both languages if needed.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, audience-appropriate outputs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard research tools.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Egypt's digital ecosystem and key institutions (MCIT, ITIDA, NTRA) and/or their policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AI governance, digital economy policy, or development finance.
  • Preferred: Experience with data analysis or visualization tools.
  • Preferred: Prior exposure to international development, public sector, or technology policy through academic research, internships, or work (0–6 years of experience).
