The Extended Term Consultant will provide sustained technical support across spatial analysis and climate resilience agendas with a strong distributional lens. The role involves supporting country teams, maintaining and developing analytical tools, and contributing to multi-country analytical work on spatial analysis and distributional impacts of policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical assistance to country teams in implementing distributional analysis, including poverty and welfare impact assessments linked to climate, spatial, and policy dimensions.
  • Support the geocoding of household surveys using the H3 spatial indexing system.
  • Support the construction of poverty maps, including the integration of spatial variables.
  • Support country teams integrate geospatial data and climate information into their analytical workflows.
  • Contribute to the ongoing maintenance, improvement, and expansion of the WISE-APP (Welfare Impacts of Weather Shiny App), including enhancements to both the user interface and the underlying analytical engine.
  • Support the development and upkeep of other relevant tools and dashboards used by the spatial analysis and climate resilience teams.
  • Ensure code quality, documentation, and version control across all tool development activities.
  • Contribute to multi-country analytical work on spatial analysis and distributional impacts of policies.
  • Support the preparation of reports, briefs, and presentations summarizing analytical findings for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist with data management, quality assurance, and the production of publication-ready outputs, including tables, figures, and maps.
  • Develop training materials and deliver trainings/webinars on tools, dashboards, analytical methods and geospatial skills to build capacity across teams.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (PhD preferred) in economics, data science, statistics, geography, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience applying economic data, and analytical tools, with a demonstrated track record of producing high-quality results independently.
  • Strong programming skills in R and/or Python, including experience with data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization.
  • Familiarity with geo-spatial analysis, including experience working with spatial data formats, GIS tools, and geospatial indexing systems.
  • Familiarity with welfare analytics, including experience constructing consumption aggregates and working with household survey microdata.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, accessible language.
  • Experience building or contributing to interactive web applications (e.g., R Shiny, Streamlit, or similar frameworks) is an advantage.
  • Strong data management skills and experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural, multi-team environment.
