See your match score & applyThe Extended Term Consultant will support the World Bank Group's engagement with the EU and Ukraine, maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders, advancing strategic agendas, and facilitating outreach activities in Brussels. The role involves policy analysis, event coordination, and supporting high-level engagements related to EU-WBG cooperation and Ukraine's reconstruction.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop strong partnerships with key interlocutors, specifically European Commission Directorates-General and services, European Investment Bank (EIB) and EU Development Finance Institutions to advance the WBG’s strategic agenda.
- Support and help advance the EU-WBG partnership related to knowledge and analytical work, ensuring European Commission counterparts can draw on WBG expertise.
- Support and help advance the EU-Europe and Central Asia (ECA) WBG partnership in coordination with ECA colleagues in the WBG Brussels Office.
- Maintain and develop strong partnerships with Brussels-based interlocutors in the context of Ukraine's reconstruction and EU membership path.
- Support Ukraine's CMU in project implementation in relevant areas.
- Engage with relevant partners to ensure the Brussels Office is well represented and WBG’s agenda advanced across development priorities and Ukraine.
- Gather intelligence and write policy briefs/papers on EU-WBG cooperation and Ukraine's reconstruction.
- Represent the WBG at meetings, events and conferences including UN Brussels Team coordination meetings.
- Facilitate the work of other World Bank units/staff to organize and implement outreach activities in Brussels.
- Provide issue and logistical support on agendas of WBG strategic engagements with EU institutions and high-level missions.
- Support effective professional relationships with key external constituencies within civil society stakeholders.
- Monitor the European Union's external action instruments and financial instruments mobilized for Ukraine.
- Develop expertise on the EU pre-accession program for Ukraine to help explore new collaboration opportunities.
- Draft presentations, speeches, key messages and talking points, and organize briefing materials for senior staff.
- Prepare the EU Donor Country Profile and weekly Brussels intelligence report.
- Support and coordinate World Bank participation in EU-led events and senior management engagements.
- Plan and organize visits of senior management in Brussels and outreach activities to share WBG knowledge.
Requirements
- Master’s degree with 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline (communications, journalism, international affairs, or other related fields).
- Familiarity with World Bank procedures and operations, including trust funds and other financial instruments.
- Proven knowledge of EU institutions, policies and financing instruments.
- Knowledge of Ukraine's EU accession process and/or Western Balkans enlargement framework is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Proven capacity to work simultaneously on a variety of issues and tasks, independently adjusting to priorities and achieving results with agreed objectives and deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-track environment, with efficiency, competence and integrity with people of different cultural background; as well as possessing diplomatic and client-engagement skills.
- Ability to learn new practices and procedures quickly, with potential for greater responsibility.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Strong computer skills, Microsoft applications.
