Technical Officer

The Technical Officer will conduct data analyses for global reporting related to HIV, hepatitis and STIs, prepare content for global reports, develop and manage data dashboards, and produce customized analyses and datasets for WHO and external partners. The role involves contributing to data review and validation from WHO Member States and supporting the global effort to end HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Responsibilities

• Conduct data analyses required for global reporting related to HIV, hepatitis and STIs.
• Prepare content for global reports related to HIV, hepatitis and STIs (e.g. text, graphics, tables, webpages).
• Develop and manage data dashboards to disseminate key findings from data analyses related to hepatitis and STIs.
• Produce customized analyses and datasets required by other units in HTH, other departments in WHO and external partners, in response to requests.
• Contribute to the review and validation of data related to HIV that are collected annually from WHO Member States in collaboration with UNAIDS.
• Contribute to the review and validation of data related to hepatitis and STIs that are reported to WHO by Member States.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• An advanced university degree (Masters level or above) related to health and health sciences that included substantial content related to analysis of data (e.g. epidemiology, medical statistics).
• A first-level university degree in a highly quantitative subject (e.g. mathematics, physics, economics, computer science).
• A PhD related to communicable diseases (desirable).
• At least seven years of experience related to the collection, validation, review, analysis and reporting of health-related data.
• At least two years of experience of developing web-based, data-driven reports using R and the R packages shiny, R Markdown and ggplot2.
• Experience of conducting research studies.
• Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Two years of experience of working on projects, studies or analyses related to developing countries.
• Experience of working with governmental, academic and international organizations/institutions.
• Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
• Experience of working with WHO or the UN System (desirable).
• Experience with data repositories and online systems for data collection and management (desirable).
• Experience of working on analyses required for major global reports (desirable).
• Experience of working on data related to HIV, TB, hepatitis or STIs (desirable).
• Excellent knowledge of principles and methods related to the statistical analysis of data.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in analysis of large datasets using R or Stata.
• Proven expertise in developing data-driven documents, charts, tables and webpages using R and the R packages shiny, R markdown and ggplot2.
• Proven expertise in web-related technologies such as HTML, Javascript and Javascript-driven graphics libraries.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to prepare high-quality presentations.
• Ability to be proactive/take initiative, and to work independently.
• Excellent at working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Expert knowledge of English.
• Intermediate knowledge of French (desirable).
