Pharmacist

Coordinate logistical arrangements for procurement, import, storage and delivery of medicines and medical products. Manage warehouse inventory and storage conditions according to WHO guidelines. Support pharmaceutical needs analysis, procurement processes, and training for public health care staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate logistical arrangements on procurement, import, storage and delivery of medicines and medical products.
• Secure warehouse management including inventory control and storage conditions according to WHO guidelines on good storage and distribution practices (monitoring product quality and cold chain management, physical inventory and stock records, controlled medicines, waste management, stock rotation and FEFO/FIFO rules etc).
• Carry out basic analyses to evaluate the pharmaceutical needs in the designated area, including forecasting and quantification of contingency planning of essential medicines requirements.
• Participate in trainings for public health care staff and implementing partners on national medicines policy, rational use of medicines, good storage practices, good dispensing practices and supply chain management.
• Support the process of local and international procurement of pharmaceuticals and other health technology products, identification of potential local suppliers and ensuring that WHO rules and regulations for emergency procurement are followed.
• Work with relevant government institutions to facilitate the process of customs clearance and quality control of medicines and supplies procured by WHO and handled by logistics team.
• Support the planning and monitoring of the pipeline and distribution of WHO procured medicines and medical supplies and contribute to assessing the pharmaceutical needs and responding to identified needs in order to improve access and availability of required medicines and minimizing stock outs.

Requirements

• First level university degree in Pharmacy or health logistics and Supply chain.
• Degree in public health or in clinical pharmacy is desirable.
• At least 1 year of experience required in the area of national drug policy programmes and administration.
• Experience in public health or in emergency management is desirable.
• Experience in UN Organizations, international institutions or NGOs is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of WHO mandate and goals and procedures and policies.
• Ability to summarize and prepare clear and precise papers and documents.
• Knowledge in developing policies and strategies in the pharmaceutical sector.
• Good skills in the pharmaceutical sector management, drug regulatory and drug supply chain.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Excellent ability to work and deliver quality results in pressing and conflicting priorities.
• Expert knowledge of English.
• Expert knowledge of Arabic.
