Driver

The WHO Country Office in Papua New Guinea seeks a Driver to provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting authorized personnel, handling deliveries, and maintaining vehicles. The role supports the office's strategic priorities in health outcomes, system strengthening, and emergency preparedness.

Responsibilities

• Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, including field visits, and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
• Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
• Check availability of all required documents/supplies for the assigned vehicle, including insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit and spare parts.
• Log official trips, daily mileage, and gas/electricity consumption.
• Undertake day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through minor repairs, oil changes, checking tires and brakes, car washing and arranging major repairs.
• Keep driving license valid and conform to traffic code and safety requirements.
• Take precautions for security of vehicle and contents when unattended.
• Ensure GPS and tracking devices are operational and check daily.
• Report any incidents or accidents as per rules and regulations.
• Perform messenger duties such as handling deliveries, collecting and loading/unloading mail, documents and goods or supplies.

Requirements

• Secondary, technical, or commercial school and a valid driving license.
• Basic mechanics' certificate and first aid training (desirable).
• Minimum one year of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
• Experience in driving within WHO or another United Nations agency would be an asset.
• Knowledge of local traffic regulations and topography of the country.
• Familiarity with protocol and organizational security standards for drivers.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining different types of vehicles.
• Ability to interact positively and tactfully with diverse clients.
• Ability to write official reports of incidents, read and understand instructions in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of English.
• Ability to drive for long periods and lift pouch bags weighing over 25 kilograms.
