The Senior Communications Associate supports WFP’s communication activities to maintain and enhance visibility and reputation in the Pacific Island Countries and Territories. The role involves planning and executing communication campaigns, creating content, managing social media, and coordinating media coverage to support WFP's humanitarian and development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to facilitate the planning, development, and execution of communication campaigns targeting specific audiences.
  • Assist in creating communication materials for campaigns, and awareness initiatives, as well as contributing to other activities that implement WFP PMCO communications strategy.
  • Contribute to WFP communication and donor visibility efforts by capturing photos and videos for social media platforms, reports, and printed material, gathering stories from beneficiaries, staff, and partners, and drafting content that highlights the impact of WFP operations, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and standards.
  • Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
  • Contribute to research, collect, and regularly update a multimedia database with relevant photos, videos, case studies, and reference materials to support ongoing communication efforts.
  • Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimize publicity of WFP’s activities.
  • Organize and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicized and attended.
  • Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  • Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary certificate in a relevant field is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies or equivalent in a related discipline, supplemented by relevant work experience, professional training, or specialized courses, is highly desirable and considered an asset.
  • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of UN system policies and functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of WFP reporting and data systems would be an advantage.
  • Fluency (level C) in English language both oral and written.
