The Security Associate supports the implementation and assessment of security measures and maintenance of equipment to ensure the safety of WFP staff, facilities, and operations. The role involves security risk analysis, coordination with local authorities, emergency planning, and training to enhance crisis preparedness and operational security.

Responsibilities

  • Review security threats and risks in detail and compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations.
  • Review security related information and use corporate or local information management tools to produce analyses and in-depth reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff and other actors to facilitate safe programme delivery and mitigate risks.
  • Plan and coordinate staff activities during field missions and perform security assessments to support safe and effective programme delivery.
  • Analyse security assessment reports and present recommendations for risk mitigation to support security situation analysis and decision-making.
  • Advise the Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
  • Support implementation of risk management mitigation measures including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
  • Support maintenance and management of security equipment and recommend technology capacity improvements.
  • Monitor and ensure effective access control procedures are followed by all staff and visitors.
  • Maintain and develop recommendations for improving emergency and contingency planning documentation including physical preparations and procedures.
  • Deliver security training to staff and review training needs to develop measures to meet business requirements.
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff supporting their development and high performance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school education.
  • A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
  • At least six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience in the Security Field such as military/police officer, Security Analyst, or any relevant security experience.
  • Prior experience in emergency context is required.
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic.
  • Knowledge of French language is an added advantage.
  • Good theoretical understanding of security management concepts and principles including knowledge of best practices, techniques and processes in the security field.
  • Good knowledge of the political and social environment in the country.
  • Specialized knowledge of the application of practical methods, techniques, procedures and systems used in security, typically gained through technical training and work experience.
  • Experience in security operations, including security administration, risk assessment, contingency planning, and coordination with local authorities and law enforcement agencies.
  • Training and practical experience in fire safety, emergency response, and evacuation procedures, including participation in drills and incident response activities.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and time constraints and to manage emergency situations while remaining calm.
  • Attention to detail and constant vigilance in order to promptly detect any breach in security measures.
  • Ability to interpret information, use judgement and inform supervisors of any incidents which might impact the UNWFP staff and operations.
  • Excellent communication skills in order to maintain frequent correspondence with both, internal staff and external authorities with regards to security advisories and security incidents.
  • Willingness to attend security trainings and comply with UNSMS standards.
