Conductor

The Conductor provides efficient and safe transportation services for authorized personnel and/or goods. The role includes vehicle maintenance, basic administrative support, and ensuring compliance with United Nations safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide transportation services for authorized personnel, including simple translation of conversations to/from the local language, and/or deliver and collect various items/products following authorized itinerary and UN safety rules to ensure safe and efficient service.
• Receive official personnel and visitors at the airport or other arrival points, provide basic assistance with visa processing and customs formalities to facilitate smooth and secure arrival and entry to the authorized destination.
• Maintain vehicle records carefully and report daily to supervisor on vehicle mechanical conditions to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption, contributing to accurate accounting and cost efficiency.
• Maintain assigned vehicle and related equipment clean and in good condition, perform timely maintenance tasks, ensure vehicle is fully equipped with travel authorizations and necessary supplies, and report any mechanical issues to supervisor to ensure safe and efficient service.
• Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in case of accident, immediately report any evident problems to supervisor to request instructions and facilitate informed decision-making on how to proceed.
• Perform basic office-related tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining warehouses as appropriate, including delivery or collection of various items, mail service, and payment of office phone and other bills to provide administrative support to clients.

Requirements

• Completion of secondary education cycle.
• Official driver training and valid license or certificate to drive the assigned vehicle applying local rules and regulations.
• Minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or United Nations system, with a proven safe driving record.
• Experience driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks, and other motor vehicles.
• Defensive driving experience is valued.
• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, driver protocol and courtesy, local roads and waterways, and related safety issues.
• Knowledge of vehicle load capacity and other vehicle parameters.
• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations for vehicles/boats as applicable.
• Knowledge of safety rules and equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, portable floating safety devices, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
• Basic skills to provide emergency assistance, knowledge of basic first aid methods.
• Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone, and other devices.
• Ability to assess vehicle mechanical suitability and technical knowledge to perform minor repairs.
• Customer-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact.
• Fluency (level C) in the official United Nations language used at the duty station and the local language if different.
