The Communications Officer develops and implements strategic communication plans to support project and programme objectives. The role involves analyzing communication contexts, managing editorial calendars, producing high-quality content including press releases, social media posts, and reports, and acting as a focal point with external partners and donors to ensure effective stakeholder engagement and appropriate organizational representation.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of approved communication strategies and plans for projects/programmes.
  • Provide analyzed data and relevant information to inform communication strategy definition.
  • Ensure timely implementation of communication activities aligned with project/programme objectives and UNOPS standards.
  • Monitor implementation and compliance with UNOPS rules and regulations.
  • Analyze local communication context, target audiences and channels to optimize communication reach and impact.
  • Contribute to dissemination of strategic messages through various forums and media.
  • Develop editorial content including key messages, FAQs, press releases, social media posts, websites, videos and fact sheets.
  • Collect and structure data to create accessible communication materials tailored to different audiences.
  • Manage editorial calendars and coordinate content production across communication channels.
  • Collaborate with technical experts to produce comprehensive reports and in-depth articles.
  • Maintain effective communication with donors, clients, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Support organization of external events and ensure organizational representation aligns with UNOPS standards.
  • Collaborate with technical and thematic experts on strategic reporting and visibility initiatives.
  • Contribute to organizing, facilitating and implementing training and learning sessions on communication topics.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing initiatives and Communities of Practice by contributing ideas and lessons learned.
  • Conduct research on communication-related topics and contribute to writing reports, summaries and briefing notes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in marketing, communication, journalism or other related field with 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in marketing, communication, journalism or other related field without prior professional experience.
  • Professional certification recognized nationally or internationally in communication, journalism or digital and social media communication is desirable.
  • Relevant professional experience in communication, public relations, media, journalism or related fields is required.
  • Experience using collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and online management systems is required.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments or within United Nations system organizations in developing countries is desirable.
  • Experience in development or humanitarian contexts is desirable.
  • Experience creating and monitoring content for local/community audiences is desirable.
  • Experience using graphic design, video production and content creation tools is desirable.
  • Fluent in English and French is required; intermediate proficiency in Arabic is desirable.
