Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Intern (Anti-Corruption)

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) offers an internship in the Corruption and Financial Crime Branch to gain experience in legal research, international treaty implementation, and anti-corruption and financial crime projects. The internship is full-time, unpaid, and lasts 3-6 months in Vienna, Austria.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting legal research into States' efforts for implementing UNCAC; selecting relevant material; analysing information and presenting findings for internal review.
• Conduct thematic research in areas relevant to the implementation of the Convention or other relevant legal frameworks using multiple sources; selecting relevant material; analysing information and presenting findings for internal review.
• Assist in the review of relevant legal documents, papers or other materials; identify important issues, similarities and inconsistencies.
• Support the drafting of correspondence to States Parties, as required.
• Support the implementation of project activities, including intergovernmental work, workshops, awareness-raising events, etc., as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Applicants must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
• Official written proof from the university supporting enrolment or graduation must be attached to the application.
• Desirable to be enrolled in or have graduated in law, international law, political science, international relations or related field.
• Computer literacy in standard software applications.
• Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including tolerance of differing opinions and views.
• No working experience required but field of study must be closely related to the internship type.
• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage and highly desirable.
