The Associate Coordination Officer will support the Director of the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs by coordinating policy functions, managing information flow, supporting programme workplans, and providing substantive backstopping to intergovernmental processes. The role involves coordination, analysis, reporting, and support to high-level officials within UNODC in Vienna.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director in developing, coordinating, operationalizing and monitoring DPA’s programme of work in all areas under the Division’s responsibility.
  • Coordinate the timely assignment, preparation, collation, review and submission of briefing notes, background documentation, reports and other written outputs in response to requests from the Director and the Office of the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate the timely assignment, preparation and coordination of Division-level contributions and written outputs.
  • Provide support and expertise to the development and roll-out of the monitoring and reporting system.
  • Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
  • Develop the divisional workplan, facilitate its implementation and document achievements at the end of cycle.
  • Draft reports, notes and analytical summaries on strategic management and policy related matters.
  • Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources to provide strategic input to the coordination and implementation of policies.
  • Provide substantive backstopping to intergovernmental and consultative processes including meetings and conferences related to policy and strategic aspects of UNODC.
  • Accompany the Director to meetings and provide necessary support.
  • Contribute to Office’s monitoring and follow-up systems including prioritization of decisions and actions arising from meetings and missions involving the Division.
  • Perform records management activities related to all policy and strategic management related matters.
  • Keep abreast of policy and substantive issues related to drug control and crime prevention worldwide.
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, political science, international relations, or related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional work experience in coordination, programme management, and results-based management and in areas related to drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice OR the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required.
  • Work experience providing direct support to high-level officials, including in the preparation of briefing notes, speaking points, reports and other documentation for meetings, events and other engagements, is desirable.
  • Work experience in coordinating and managing high-visibility engagement and events for high-level officials is desirable.
  • Work experience relating to the development of monitoring and reporting systems is desirable.
  • Direct work experience with field-based project implementation and impact reporting is desirable.
  • Work experience directly engaging with Member States and other external stakeholders in the context of implementing strategic work plans is desirable.
  • Work experience with the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable.
  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
  • English is required at UN Level III proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Either French or Spanish is desirable at UN Level III proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
