See your match score & applyThe Information Management Assistant supports the OCHA Information Management Unit in Goma, DRC, by providing technical assistance in data collection, processing, and analysis to facilitate humanitarian cash transfer coordination and response. The role involves managing information products, coordinating data collection with partners, and producing visual and cartographic information to support humanitarian decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Support the OCHA Information Management Unit head by suggesting, improving, and promoting the use of standard products for data collection and processing related to the humanitarian situation.
- Support strategic and operational decision-making through data analysis and presentation in appropriate formats (charts, tables, maps).
- Develop a client-oriented approach with partners to help identify priority information needs.
- Lead information management processes and develop/improve data collection tools (4Ws, PSF mapping) for the national and provincial cash assistance coordination structure in line with the humanitarian architecture in DRC.
- Coordinate data collection with partners and support them in identifying and reporting relevant data for effective information management (bilateral support, training).
- Collect and compile Who-Does-What-Where project data and update the 4W product monthly.
- Manage contact lists, mailing lists, and mailboxes: updating, cleaning, and sending information.
- Participate and represent the CWG in relevant working groups (IMWG, GAAC), coordinate with cluster IMOs and partners for collaborative work, participate in CWGP/R meetings at headquarters.
- Support and strengthen humanitarian response monitoring, especially cash transfers, through data analysis and compilation, producing maps, visuals, and other relevant infographics.
- Design, develop, and manage databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools.
- Understand, document, and ensure data quality for accuracy, consistency, and comparability.
- Consolidate operational information regularly to support analysis.
- Participate in developing, implementing, and managing new indicators.
- Support assessment and needs analysis activities, including humanitarian needs overviews, market functioning and JMMI, secondary data reviews, preliminary scenario definitions, and rapid multi-cluster initial assessments.
- Provide advice on assessment design to ensure data quality; manage platforms and tools supporting data collection and analysis such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Manage content on the HumanitarianResponse.info hub page, ensuring overall platform quality control and up-to-date, complete content.
- Ensure corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the platform developed using the Symfony framework.
- Ensure evolutionary maintenance of data collection forms and analysis frameworks developed for multi-sector assessments.
- Produce and update information products such as reports, charts, and infographics by transforming data into graphic products.
- Develop awareness materials including posters, presentations, and other visual documents.
- Produce and update high-quality cartographic products and online services.
- Perform other information management-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in information management, information systems (ICT), social sciences, geography (GIS), or related field.
- A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master's degree.
- Candidates with a Master's degree are not required to have professional experience.
- Candidates with a first-level university degree must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in information management, information systems management, data analysis, or related fields.
- At least three years of experience in humanitarian action and/or cash transfer response and/or supporting a humanitarian coordination forum (clusters, working groups) is required.
- Good knowledge of the local context, preferably with UN agencies or international NGOs, is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of geographic information system management and cartography, including common GIS software (ARC/GIS or QGIS).
- Proven experience in application development using the Symfony framework.
- Good knowledge of Adobe suite: Illustrator, InDesign, and Kobo Toolbox.
- Very good knowledge of MS Excel (Pivot tables, Power Query, etc.).
- Ability to develop questionnaires and analysis frameworks.
- Good data analysis skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of PowerBI.
- Knowledge of KoBo Toolbox is an advantage.
- Knowledge of AI use in information management.
- Ability to work productively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in French, both oral and written, is required.
- Knowledge of English and local language (Swahili) is an advantage.
