The Team Leader (Electro-Mechanic & Equipment) leads the electro-mechanical and equipment team to ensure safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of VIC buildings and associated installations. The role involves team management, technical operations, project and contractor management, asset and resource management, and compliance monitoring within the Directorate of Corporate Services and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the work of the Electro-Mechanical and Equipment Team, ensuring effective delivery of maintenance, repair and installation services in support of VIC operations.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the annual work plan and preventive maintenance programme for electro-mechanical equipment and systems, including clear objectives, priorities, milestones and performance targets.
  • Plan and administer work schedules, allocate resources and assign tasks in an equitable and efficient manner to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and on-the-job training to team members, monitor the quality of work performed and provide constructive feedback to support staff development and performance improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, organizational policies and operational procedures, promoting a strong culture of occupational health and safety within the team.
  • Organize, coordinate and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities related to electro-mechanical equipment, including automatic doors, gate barriers, rolling shutters, waste drop chutes, compact shelving systems, airlifts, façade cleaning equipment and other specialized installations.
  • Ensure that maintenance, repair and installation works are carried out in accordance with technical specifications, construction drawings, wiring diagrams, installation manuals, manufacturers' recommendations and approved maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate, supervise and participate, as required, in the assembly, installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of electro-mechanical systems, equipment and components.
  • Organize and oversee inspections, testing, diagnostics and performance evaluation of equipment and systems, ensuring timely rectification of faults and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Perform, or supervise, electrical maintenance activities, including the installation, testing, repair and replacement of electrical components, switchboards, control panels, wiring systems, lighting fixtures, drives, actuators and signalling devices.
  • Establish and implement testing procedures to verify equipment condition, system performance and operational reliability.
  • Ensure that electrical and control system documentation, including schematics and AutoCAD drawings, is maintained and updated as required.
  • Coordinate the inspection, maintenance and repair of elevators and escalators, performing minor repairs and ensuring that major repairs are properly reported, documented and communicated to external service providers.
  • Liaise with inspection authorities, including TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein), during statutory inspections, safety tests and certification activities.
  • Coordinate maintenance and operational support for façade cleaning equipment and gondolas, including the provision of operational training to designated users and contractors.
  • Provide technical support during emergency situations involving elevators, gondolas and other specialized equipment, including rescue operations when required.
  • Contribute technical expertise to the planning, design, procurement, implementation and commissioning of equipment upgrades, modernization projects and system modifications.
  • Review technical proposals, specifications, drawings, material requirements and installation plans, ensuring compliance with operational, safety and user requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor maintenance and repair services carried out by contractors, ensuring contractual compliance, adherence to quality standards, timely completion of works and minimal interruption to building operations.
  • Review contractor reports, maintenance protocols and technical documentation, and verify the quality and completeness of services provided.
  • Monitor the condition and performance of electro-mechanical assets and recommend replacement, refurbishment or upgrade measures as required.
  • Identify and recommend spare parts, materials, tools and equipment required for maintenance activities and project implementation.
  • Ensure proper storage, control and safeguarding of equipment, materials, spare parts, consumables and chemicals under the team's responsibility.
  • Conduct regular inspections of VIC facilities and report deficiencies, damages and maintenance requirements through established reporting channels.
  • Ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are accurately documented in the Facility Management Electronic Work Order Platform and that records are complete and up to date.
  • Keep abreast of developments in electro-mechanical technologies, industry standards, applicable regulations, local building codes and VIC operating license requirements, ensuring their effective application within the team's activities.
  • Monitor compliance with quality, safety, environmental and operational standards and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completed secondary education complemented by the completed Apprenticeship (Journeyman Certificate – (Gesellenbrief)) in mechatronics, electrical or other related field or completed higher technical school (e.g. HTL) or equivalent with relevant practical experience is required.
  • Master Tradesman Certificate (Meisterpruefung) in the field of work is an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electro-mechanical and electrical equipment and systems in large commercial, industrial or institutional facilities is required.
  • Candidates holding a relevant first‑level university degree or higher must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment, including elevators, escalators, automatic doors, barriers, rolling shutters and other building service systems is required.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics, and in the use of testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience in coordinating maintenance activities, providing technical guidance and overseeing the work of technicians and contractors is required.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or electronic work order systems is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international organization or a complex multi-building facility environment is desirable.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), internet.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP software is an asset.
  • Good physical condition is required as works involves considerable physical exertion, e.g. walking long distances, standing, crouching, lifting and carrying heavy objects and working on high scaffolds and ladders or in inconvenient positions.
  • Work has often to be carried out at irregular working hours and within short notice.
  • Working knowledge of English and German is required.
