See your match score & applyThe Journeyperson (Masonry & Painting) provides multi-skilled support across masonry, painting, and repair tasks within the Facility Management Services at UNIDO Vienna. The role involves assisting in construction, refurbishment, maintenance, and painting of building structures and office constructions, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in construction of simple building structures according to requests, drawings and sketches and carry out refurbishments to old structures, as requested.
- Assist in construction and installation of walls, ceilings and doors with materials such as brick, gypsum plasterboard, wooden acoustic panels for conference rooms, and other parts in the cafeteria of the VIC interior as assigned, in cooperation with other team members.
- Repair, maintain, assemble, paint, and fit all kinds of office constructions, walls, doors, windows, furniture, built-in cabinets, counters etc.
- Maintain and operate machines and equipment such as brick chisel, spade trowel, veneering, pressing, drilling, sawing, painting, spray painting including and cabin spraying tools, as well as other heavy machines under supervision/as assigned.
- Follow all applicable rules and regulations and handle machines, equipment, and material in a competent, proper and safe manner, wear protective clothing, such as masks, gloves and shoes when required, and store tools properly in the Workshop.
- Carry out all duties with due consideration of applicable/prevailing security instructions, norms and environmental- and quality standards.
- Keep abreast of latest technologies, norms, standards and regulations and carry out work in accordance with the prevailing engineering, safety and security instructions, norms and environmental- and quality standards.
- Discuss implementation of new products and techniques with the Team Leader/Journeyman.
- Record all the relevant information related to the work assigned in the Facility Management Electronic Workorder Platform, as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Completed secondary education is required.
- Certificate of completed apprenticeship or equivalent (e.g. “Gesellenbrief”) as a skilled stone builder/mason is required.
- The HTL or equivalent certificate is accepted in lieu of the completed apprenticeship supported by relevant practical experience as stone builder/mason.
- A minimum of work experience in the masonry field is required as follows: Completed secondary education: at least 2 years of relevant experience; First-level university degree or higher: at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and the internet.
- Good physical condition is required as work involves considerable physical exertion, e.g. walking long distances, standing, crouching, lifting and carrying heavy objects and working on high scaffolds and ladders or in inconvenient positions.
- Work has often to be carried out at irregular working hours and within short notice.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Fluency and/or working knowledge of another official UN language or German is desirable.
