Health Specialist (Emergency)

The Health Specialist (Emergency) supports the Chief of Health in managing the health section and leads the management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the health programme related to Health in Emergencies. The role provides technical guidance and operational support to achieve sustainable results aligned with organizational strategic plans and accountability frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Support the Chief of Health in managing the health section.
• Lead the management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the health programme related to Health in Emergencies.
• Provide technical guidance and operational support throughout the programming process.
• Facilitate achievement of concrete and sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM).
• Ensure alignment with organizational Strategic Plans and goals, standards of performance, and accountability framework.
• Engage in programme development and planning.
• Manage programme monitoring and delivery of results.
• Provide advisory services and technical support.
• Engage in advocacy, networking and partnership building.
• Promote innovation, knowledge management and capacity building.

Requirements

• Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in public health, health emergencies/ epidemiology or another relevant technical field.
• A minimum of eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health planning and/or management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
• Relevant experience working in a humanitarian situation is required.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
• Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
• Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
• Experience with multilateral organizations, health cluster coordination, field experience in humanitarian emergencies is an asset.
• Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
