See your match score & applyThe Driver/Messenger provides safe, reliable, and courteous driving services for authorized personnel, visitors, consultants, and partners of UNICEF, as well as delivery and collection of documents, supplies, and other goods necessary for office operations. The role includes vehicle maintenance, route planning, and logistical support.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe and reliable driving services for authorized personnel, consultants, visitors, and partners.
- Deliver and collect mail, documents, diplomatic pouches, and other official items.
- Comply at all times with traffic laws, road safety rules, and UN security procedures.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, transported goods, and the vehicle.
- Plan routes and adapt trips based on traffic and security conditions.
- Demonstrate courtesy, discretion, and professionalism in interactions with internal and external clients.
- Perform daily vehicle checks before use.
- Regularly check oil, water, fuel, brake fluid levels, and tire pressure.
- Maintain the vehicle clean, in good working order, and compliant with safety standards.
- Report immediately any breakdowns, mechanical anomalies, or repair needs.
- Follow up on periodic maintenance and scheduled technical inspections.
- Ensure permanent availability of mandatory safety equipment.
- Maintain vehicle logbook.
- Record trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance operations.
- Control validity of vehicle documents including insurance, registration, and technical inspection.
- Prepare reports and required information related to vehicle use and maintenance.
- Keep administrative vehicle records according to applicable procedures.
- Support logistical activities related to staff and visitor travel.
- Participate in loading and unloading of light equipment when necessary.
- Support preparation of field missions.
- Provide any other administrative or logistical support compatible with the functions of the position.
Requirements
- Completion of secondary education or equivalent qualification.
- Valid driving licenses A and B corresponding to the categories of vehicles and motorcycles used in the functions.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a record of safe driving is required.
- Prudent driving, adherence to traffic code, vehicle maintenance, mechanical upkeep, route planning, and logbook keeping skills.
- Proficiency in French is required.
- Practical knowledge of English or another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) or the local language (Shikomori) is considered an asset.
- Experience within an international organization, UN agency, NGO, or government institution is an asset.
- Relevant national experience, including in development contexts, fragile situations, and humanitarian contexts is desirable.
