The consultant will support the design, facilitation, and implementation of gamified and participatory processes to engage youth in public schools and prioritized territories in Petrópolis, Brazil, promoting urban and climate resilience, sustainability, and the right to the city. The role involves planning workshops, mobilizing youth, developing pedagogical content, coordinating with audiovisual teams, and preparing technical reports aligned with UN-Habitat principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the project’s gamification methodology, including the structure of challenges, evaluation criteria, and participant engagement mechanisms in workshops in Petrópolis.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, training activities, and educational processes with youth in public schools and prioritized territories on urban and climate resilience, sustainability, and the right to the city.
  • Support continuous mobilization and engagement of participating youth, promoting inclusion, youth leadership, and active participation throughout all stages of the project.
  • Contribute to the development of pedagogical content and support materials related to the project’s thematic areas, in articulation with the educommunication approach.
  • Work in coordination with the audiovisual production team, contributing to integration between educational activities and content produced by youth participants.
  • Support organization and implementation of events, exhibitions, public presentations, or other activities showcasing project results.
  • Prepare technical reports, systematized records, and other documents related to activities carried out, in accordance with institutional guidelines.
  • Ensure all activities align with UN-Habitat principles, particularly social inclusion, equity, participation, and urban and climate resilience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Pedagogy, Biology, Environmental Studies or related fields is required, or additional three (3) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.
  • Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Education, Participatory Methodologies, Youth Studies, Communication, Gamification, Social Innovation, Environmental and Climate Studies or related fields is desirable.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in educational, social, or community-based projects in Brazil is required.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, participatory processes, or working with youth is required.
  • Experience in projects related to sustainability, climate justice, or territorial development is required.
  • Experience with innovative methodologies, such as gamification, educommunication, or non-formal education is required.
  • Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
  • Ability to facilitate participatory processes and engage youth and diverse audiences is required.
  • Ability to plan and deliver educational activities and active learning methodologies is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, are required.
  • Strong organizational skills, proactivity, and ability to work effectively in a team are required.
  • Ability to coordinate and engage with different stakeholders (schools, institutions) is desirable.
  • The consultant must be available to travel to the places related to the activities in the country, if requested by the Head of Brazil Office.
  • The consultant will be responsible for completing all courses and training activities indicated by supervisor, including the UNDSS BSAFE security course during the first month.
  • The consultant must be familiar with United Nations security mechanisms and comply with them according to the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System.
  • Appointment against this post is on local basis and only nationals from Brazil or external candidates who hold a permanent visa in Brazil may apply.
