The Driver will provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation and logistical support for official travel, field missions, stakeholder engagements and programme activities in South Sudan. The role ensures compliance with UN safety, security, fleet management, and administrative requirements while supporting the effective implementation of UN-Habitat programme activities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive UN-Habitat vehicles safely for the transport of UN-Habitat staff and consultants on official duty, in accordance with applicable UN vehicle-use, security and safety procedures.
  • Provide transportation support for official field missions, project activities, meetings, workshops, trainings, assessments and monitoring visits.
  • Transport project materials, supplies, equipment and official documents to activity sites, as required.
  • Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of authorized personnel and support the planning of efficient travel routes and schedules.
  • Support field teams during community engagements, trainings, monitoring visits and other programme activities, as required.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle(s) in a clean, roadworthy and good working condition through daily inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor fuel, oil, tyres, brakes, battery and other essential vehicle systems; promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, incidents and maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate routine servicing and repairs in accordance with UN-Habitat administrative and fleet management procedures.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle movement logs, mileage records, fuel consumption records, maintenance records and travel documentation.
  • Ensure that vehicle registration, insurance, inspection certificates, licences and other required documentation remain valid and available at all times.
  • Ensure that vehicles are equipped with required safety and emergency equipment and that transported project assets are handled safely and securely.
  • Comply with local traffic laws, road safety regulations, UN security requirements, safeguarding standards and applicable organizational policies.
  • Deliver and collect official correspondence, documents and supplies, and provide logistical support for programme activities as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Secondary school education is required.
  • A Valid South Sudan driving licence is also required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional driving experience is required.
  • Experience driving 4WD vehicles in rural, field-based or challenging operating environments is desirable.
  • Experience supporting UN, humanitarian, development or donor-funded projects is desirable.
  • Knowledge of local traffic regulations, road safety procedures and basic vehicle maintenance is required.
  • Defensive driving training and/or a certificate in auto mechanics is desirable.
  • Basic computer and email communication skills are desirable.
