Under the direct supervision of the GBV Programme Specialist, the intern supports programme planning, coordination, monitoring, documentation, research, and event organization related to Gender-Based Violence. The role includes assisting with workplans, progress tracking, reporting, knowledge management, and resource mobilization efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Support programme monitoring, reporting, and evaluation by preparing, reviewing, and following-up on annual workplans and activity plans with implementing partners.
  • Assist in tracking programme implementation by compiling updates on progress, challenges, and planned activities.
  • Support coordination through scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action points.
  • Support the preparation of programme documents, briefing notes, and other materials related to Gender and GBV interventions.
  • Assist in tracking programme implementation against workplans, indicators and expected outputs.
  • Assist in maintaining programme monitoring tools, databases, and tracking sheets.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support in organizing training, workshops, consultations, and other events.
  • Contribute to knowledge management, documentation, and communication by maintaining organized electronic programme files, documenting lessons learned, and contributing to the development of programme products.
  • Conduct desk reviews and background research on gender equality, GBV prevention and response, and humanitarian protection issues.
  • Assist in documenting lessons learned, success stories, and good practices from programme implementation.
  • Support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts by assisting in the preparation of project summaries, briefing notes, and advocacy materials.
  • Support in the preparation of donor reports, concept notes, presentations and advocacy products as requested.
  • Perform other programme-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, consistent with learning objectives and the needs of the Gender-Based Violence Programme.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as master’s programme or higher); or have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.
  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development.
  • Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the United Nations (English or French) and fluency in the official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish) of the UNFPA office.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Recent graduate or currently enrolled in a master's degree programme in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or another relevant field.
  • Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution or by the students themselves.
  • Interns receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship if not financially supported by any institution or programme.
  • Applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship and proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
