The Consultant Chauffeur based in Ambovombe provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for UNFPA staff, ensuring proper vehicle maintenance and supporting ongoing operations in Madagascar. The role involves close collaboration with Operations and Programme teams to meet staff and partner needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including checking oil and water levels, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs in case of breakdowns, organize major repairs as needed, and keep the vehicle clean.
  • Plan major repairs, oil changes, tire and brake checks, and vehicle cleaning.
  • Document official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil checks, lubrication, etc., and keep the vehicle technical file updated.
  • Take immediate action according to UNFPA procedures in case of accidents or incidents involving the vehicle.
  • Ensure availability and updating of necessary vehicle documents and equipment (insurance, temporary admission, logbook, city/country map, first aid kit, etc.).
  • Submit monthly activity reports including fuel consumption reports based on supporting documents such as invoices and fuel station receipts, entering mileage and fuel volume data.
  • Transport UNFPA staff and visitors safely and courteously.
  • Perform trips related to project activities, including collecting and distributing mail and documents.
  • Drive during field missions according to defined routes.
  • Support the project manager in preparing field missions and planning periodic vehicle maintenance.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Representative, leaders, or supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School certificate required; higher education is an asset.
  • Driving licenses categories B and D required; categories A and C are an asset.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience as a driver, preferably in a large organization or international agency with a history of safe driving.
  • Good knowledge of traffic rules and road safety procedures.
  • Experience in routine vehicle maintenance (basic checks, reporting mechanical issues, monitoring maintenance services).
  • Proficiency in using GPS navigation and communication tools (smartphone, radio, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge in logistics or administrative support (document transport, travel planning management) is desirable.
  • Fluency in French.
  • Practical knowledge of English is an asset.
