The Senior Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Head of Office and high ranking UNESCO/UN officials and visitors in Tashkent. The role includes driving, vehicle maintenance coordination, and assisting with basic clerical duties and protocol facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Head of Office, UNESCO/UN officials and staff, including senior and high-ranking officials and visitors, ensuring reliable and safe driving services.
  • Meet senior staff, officials and visitors at the airport and facilitate basic visa and customs formalities when required.
  • Translate in local language for the Head of the Office and/or official personnel using the vehicle when necessary.
  • Coordinate routes and schedules for drivers and vehicles on a daily basis.
  • Instruct other drivers on traffic and safety regulations, office regulations with respect to vehicles and equipment, and safety measures.
  • Coordinate arrangements for major vehicle repairs.
  • Ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of vehicles and accurate day-to-day vehicle logs; prepare vehicle maintenance logs and reports.
  • Report problems such as abuse/misuse of equipment and vehicles to the Administrative Officer.
  • Assist with installation and use of HF, VHF radio and satellite phone in the vehicle.
  • Ensure availability of all required documents and supplies in the assigned vehicle, including vehicle insurance, registration, logs, office directory, map, first aid kit, and spare parts.
  • Keep track of insurance and tax formalities and report accidents timely and accurately.
  • Deliver and collect mail and documents, including visas, identity cards, driving licenses, and other personnel-related documents as required.
  • Undertake basic clerical duties such as photocopying, binding, assisting with filing, and paying some office bills.

Requirements

  • Completed secondary, technical or vocational education.
  • Valid category B driving license held for more than 5 years.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a driver.
  • Vehicle maintenance skills and basic skills in automotive mechanics.
  • Excellent knowledge of Uzbek traffic laws and regulations.
  • Efficiency, tact, discretion and keen observation skills in carrying out tasks and adhering to instructions.
  • Availability and flexibility to meet service needs.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Acute attention to any safety and security matters that may impact vehicle operations.
  • Capacity to deliver emergency responses and ensure protocol compliance.
  • Excellent knowledge of Uzbek (written and spoken).
  • Basic knowledge of English.
  • Certification in first aid (desirable).
  • Experience within the UN system, and international organisation or diplomatic mission (desirable).
  • Experience in customs procedures and protocol (desirable).
  • Knowledge of defensive driving (desirable).
  • Good knowledge of Russian (desirable).
