The Field Security Assistant supports the implementation of security operations and safety measures for UNESCO personnel in Sudan. The role involves liaising with UN and local security entities, maintaining security plans, conducting security assessments, and assisting in emergency response and security training.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise and coordinate with UNDSS, other UN agencies and local government security organisations.
  • Assist in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists.
  • Support checking and follow-up on implementation of Security Risk Management measures at the duty station.
  • Assess the security situation and provide updates to UNESCO Head of Office in coordination with UNESCO Field Security.
  • Assist in identifying Emergency Communications equipment needs.
  • Conduct security evaluations and provide advice on security measures for residences and offices.
  • Assist in organising training courses on security issues, awareness and preparedness.
  • Support actions during implementation of the Security Plan as required.
  • Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
  • Follow up on access control of UNESCO offices in different locations.
  • Support field missions as required.
  • Maintain a database of all security incidents and complete reports.
  • Assist in conducting security and safety-related investigations in coordination with Head of Office and UNESCO Field Security.
  • Assist in responding to emergencies/crises involving UNESCO operations, staff and assets.
  • Keep records of issuance and return of UNESCO ID cards.
  • Perform other security tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in security, ideally within the military, police, or a related field.
  • Prior experience within the United Nations system is highly desirable.
  • Field Security Associate (FSA) certification is strongly preferred and considered an asset.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
  • Knowledge of VHF radio operation.
  • Experience in diplomatic security or protection is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of host country safety codes.
  • Solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and able to drive a 4x4.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Physically fit.
