The Communications Consultant will support the implementation of the Sciences Sector's communication strategy, coordinating events, developing digital communication materials, and providing communication support across various programmes. The role involves drafting communication content, coordinating translations and publications, and supporting event planning and delivery at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Sector’s events and priorities in close collaboration with relevant sections, primarily in English and French, in accordance with UNESCO’s communication guidelines.
  • Support the Sector’s planning, development, and implementation of communication for events, initiatives, and International Days under the responsibility of specified sections.
  • Provide communication support to the Executive Officer in relation to cross-cutting initiatives involving coordination with sections.
  • Coordinate updates to the sections’ contributions to the UNESCO Calendar of Events and other planning tools, ensuring timely communication planning and follow-up for major and high-level events.
  • Maintain updated calendar of events for the Sciences Sector and feed CPE Trello Board.
  • Contribute to the development of digital communication to enhance visibility and stakeholder engagement, including for Social Transformations Week and the MOST Forum.
  • Draft and prepare online communication materials, including flyers, web stories, visual assets, and other outreach products.
  • Coordinate the editing, translation, and online publication of content, including articles, web pages, and event pages primarily in English and French.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and updating of web content in coordination with programme teams and UNESCO communication services.
  • Coordinate consolidation, quality control, and timely submission of briefing materials for senior officials, liaising with concerned sections and UNESCO entities.
  • Support planning, coordination, and delivery of events and engagements, including liaison with organizing teams, preparation of communication and briefing materials, and documentation through photography and video coverage when required.
  • Design a pamphlet on the collaboration between La Caixa Foundation and UNESCO MOST.
  • Perform duties with care, professionalism, and diligence, complying with supervisor instructions.

Requirements

  • Advanced University Degree (Master's or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Cultural or Social Sciences or other relevant fields of study.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional work experience in communications, print media, digital and social media, public relations, or other relevant fields of work.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills.
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various applications.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
