See your match score & applyThe SOC Clerk is responsible for managing the radio station and all related communication equipment, ensuring secure communications for UN personnel and agencies in Cote d'Ivoire. The role supports security operations by maintaining communication links, assisting in emergency situations, and ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of communication devices.
Responsibilities
- Manage communications in the UN Telecommunications room and dispatch security information to all agencies as requested by the Security Advisor.
- Maintain daily contact with other offices, SOCs, or field radio rooms, performing radio checks at least twice daily and maintaining regular contact.
- Serve as a communication relay between vehicles and users in shadow zones.
- Track official missions in the field hourly for official vehicles and every 30 minutes in certain zones.
- Handle incoming and outgoing calls (Radio, GSM/Sat phone, Email, etc.) with discretion and courtesy.
- Send and receive messages using communication equipment within the strict service framework.
- Contact security forces (Police/Gendarmerie), firefighters, civil protection, etc., to assist UN personnel in distress or emergencies.
- Inform the FSA/SA of any security information or situations impacting UN personnel, programs, and assets.
- Notify the FSA/Security Advisor of any security assistance requests from UN personnel and execute received recommendations.
- Support and brief UN personnel on radio use and communications.
- Secure access to the communication room, limiting access to service needs.
- Assist in installation and programming of radios.
- Maintain a log of all incoming/outgoing voice calls.
- Keep an inventory of telecommunication equipment in the communication room.
- Monitor and distribute small IT and communication equipment, maintaining dispatch and assignment records.
- Keep transfer records updated to ensure traceability of organizational assets.
- Be willing to work night shifts.
- Contribute quality inputs to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Perform other tasks necessary for the effective functioning of the office and organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of experience OR High School certificate with 6 years of experience.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in communication and telecommunication with a high school diploma.
- Experience using computers, office software (MS Word, Excel, etc.), databases, and web-based management systems such as ERP.
- Experience in using HF and VHF radios.
- Secondary school diploma and valid driving license required.
- Prior experience within the United Nations system or an international NGO is desirable.
- Experience using radio communication systems and knowledge of the country's security codes are desirable.
- Good experience in crisis and security situation management is desirable.
- Proven experience in communication and telecommunication is an asset.
- Experience and good knowledge of security measures in Cote d'Ivoire.
- Good mastery of security rules.
- Fluency in French is required.
- Basic knowledge of English is desirable.
