The internship provides graduate-level students with practical experience in communications within a multi-cultural international organization. The intern will support the Communications Team in daily activities and contribute to the accomplishment of UNDP Brazil's strategic goals, either on-site or remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily news clipping on stories of interest to UNDP and its partners.
  • Assist in maintenance and update of UNDP Brazil’s website(s).
  • Translate documents, presentations, news articles and press releases between English, Portuguese and Spanish.
  • Support writing communications materials including stories, reports, press releases and minutes of meetings.
  • Support preparation of social media content such as texts and cards.
  • Assist in creating and implementing social media strategy and explore new online tools.
  • Assist in preparation of analytical reports and presentations on website and social media performance.
  • Assist in creation or update of design and layout of communication materials including arts, graphics and infographics.
  • Assist with video production and audio projects including recording, editing, titling and media management.
  • Gather information on themes related to UNDP’s mandate and projects.
  • Support preparation, organization and coverage of events.
  • Assist with photography of events and UNDP executives.
  • Manage and update mailing lists used by the Communications Unit.
  • Handle telephone calls and requests from press, public, partners and internal clients.
  • Perform other related tasks as requested.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be involved in a course of study in fields such as Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Design and all other related fields.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), or have graduated with a university degree and start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in development and UNDP’s mandate areas.
  • Ability to work with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere.
  • Knowledge of photojournalism.
  • Portuguese must be the candidate’s mother tongue.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
  • Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose.
  • Interns are not remunerated by UNDP but may receive a stipend if not financially supported by other institutions.
  • Interns must secure adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship and provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting.
  • Interns shall not represent UNDP in any official capacity or commit resources on its behalf.
  • Interns shall not apply for or be appointed to any position during the internship period.
  • Internship assignments normally last a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of six months, with possible extension to nine months for educational credit.
  • Interns must comply with all applicable UNDP rules and regulations and respect confidentiality and impartiality requirements.
