The Visual Communications Analyst supports the development and delivery of high-quality visual communications across UN Women’s social media channels, editorial products and corporate digital platforms. The role involves graphic design, data visualization, and user interface design to strengthen UN Women’s visual identity and audience engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide social media-first graphic design tailored to UN Women social media accounts including GIFs, infographics, illustrations, photo collages, quote cards, and illustrated explainers.
  • Develop and maintain social media asset templates for all UN Women social media channels and make templates available on Canva for localization.
  • Edit and resize images and prepare creative visuals tailored for UN Women corporate social media platforms.
  • Guide and support incorporation of graphic elements into social media videos ensuring consistent brand identity.
  • Collaborate on infographics, data cards, illustrated explainers, and other data visualization products with data, policy and programme colleagues.
  • Update and organize UN Women’s public Trello board for distribution of global social media content and packages.
  • Follow design trends on social media and experiment with new approaches to keep content visually interesting and engaging.
  • Review and give feedback on graphics delivered by external vendors.
  • Develop illustrations and layouts for high-priority organizational communication products applying UN Women branding and visual identity standards.
  • Create interactive infographics in Infogram and update and edit products and designs.
  • Apply user interface design principles across desktop, tablet and mobile for the UN Women website.
  • Collaborate with editorial and digital teams and external UX specialists on user research and data collection to identify user needs and behaviours.
  • Design and support usability testing and other UX testing methods to validate and refine design decisions.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity interface designs in Figma applying responsive design and accessibility principles.
  • Collaborate closely with Drupal developers to ensure designs are technically feasible, accessible, consistent and maintainable within UN Women’s web ecosystem.
  • Continuously improve the usability, accessibility and overall user experience of the UN Women website based on research and testing insights.
  • Perform other duties within functional profile as necessary for efficient functioning of the Office and Organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual communication, digital design, interaction design, communications or another relevant field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in visual communications, graphic design, digital design or a closely related field.
  • Experience developing visual content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Experience using professional graphic design and/or interface design tools.
  • Experience in user interface design, including the development of wireframes, prototypes or responsive digital interfaces.
  • Experience in editorial design, infographics and data visualization is desirable.
  • Experience using Figma is desirable.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and/or Infogram is desirable.
  • Experience applying accessibility principles to digital design is desirable.
  • Experience working with Drupal or another content management system is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international, multicultural or UN environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of gender equality and women’s rights issues is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
