The intern will support the UN Communications Group (UNCG) under the supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Officer. Responsibilities include mobile video production and editing, graphic design, content strategy, and administrative support for UNCG communications objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Film short-form video content for social media and the UN website using mobile devices, in accordance with UNCG editorial priorities and UN branding guidelines.
  • Edit footage using mobile and desktop video editing applications to produce polished, audience-appropriate content (e.g. reels, explainers, event highlights, SDG spotlights).
  • Assist with the planning and execution of video shoots at UN events, field visits, and partner activities.
  • Manage a library of raw footage and edited video assets, ensuring proper organisation and archiving.
  • Design visually compelling social media graphics, infographics, banners, and other digital assets using Canva, in line with UN and UNCG brand standards.
  • Adapt existing templates and develop new design concepts to communicate complex development themes in accessible and engaging ways.
  • Support the production of materials for campaigns, observances, events, and advocacy initiatives led by the UNCG and member agencies.
  • Assist with drafting copy for social media posts, captions, and content calendars in support of UNCG digital communications.
  • Track and compile basic metrics on content performance to support reporting and strategic planning.
  • Participate in UNCG working sessions and contribute creative ideas for campaigns and storytelling initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising officer in support of RCO and UNCG communications objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is the basic education required.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed within the past year, a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. programme (or equivalent) in Communications, Media and Film Studies, Journalism, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience; however, demonstrated academic or practical exposure to the fields listed above is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in filming and editing short-form video content using a mobile device.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Canva for graphic design and visual content creation.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter) and digital content best practices.
  • Good working knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience with additional video editing software (e.g. CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, DaVinci Resolve) is desirable.
  • Photography skills are desirable.
  • Experience managing or contributing to organisational social media accounts is desirable.
  • Familiarity with UN branding or experience working in an international or multilateral environment is desirable.
  • Creativity and initiative in developing compelling visual and multimedia content.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Integrity and alignment with the values and mission of the United Nations.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Trinidad and Tobago or the Caribbean region is an asset.
