The intern will support OHCHR in promoting and protecting the human rights of people on the move and advancing a human rights-based approach to migration governance. Responsibilities include research, drafting reports, supporting migration-related processes, preparing meetings and events, and contributing to communication and knowledge-sharing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyse migration and human rights issues, including thematic, regional and policy developments relating to migration and human rights.
  • Draft and summarize reports, briefing notes, background papers, talking points, meeting notes and other substantive materials.
  • Support the preparation of OHCHR inputs to migration-related processes, including Human Rights Council, General Assembly and Global Compact for Migration-related activities.
  • Prepare for and service meetings, consultations, workshops and events, including preparation of documentation and drafting of notes and reports.
  • Contribute to communication, advocacy, outreach related to migration and human rights.
  • Assist with web content, information management and other knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
  • Knowledge in the field of Migration and human rights is desirable.
  • Good capacity to collect, synthesize and analyze information from various sources and to draft documents in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills to manage a heavy workload and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Working level knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
