Legal intern

The legal intern will support research and documentation relating mainly to competition and consumer protection frameworks, as well as the Oman market study and the final assessment of Oman’s 10th National Development Plan. The intern may also contribute to preparations for the Arab Competition Forum and a regional consumer protection webinar planned for November.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary research on assigned legal and regulatory topics, particularly in the areas of competition and consumer protection.
• Support legal research related to Oman’s building materials sector, using available legislation, legal records and reference sources.
• Contribute to the legal assessment of Oman’s 10th National Development Plan and the preparation of related outputs.
• Assist in drafting, editing and proofreading reports, presentations, background notes and other documents with legal content.
• Support consumer protection work, including the webinar planned for November, with research and documentation.
• Assist with legal and substantive preparations for the Arab Competition Forum and related competition policy activities.
• Gather, organize and maintain legal information and electronic reference files to facilitate efficient retrieval and analysis.
• Provide support, where required, to legal resources and initiatives such as the Arab Business Legislative Framework (ABLF) and Arab Legislations Portal (ALP).
• Perform additional tasks and assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with a university degree and be able to commence the internship within one year of graduation.
• Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
• Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Program.
• Knowledge in legal analysis is desirable.
• Fluency in English and Arabic is required; French is an advantage.
