Internship-Library and Knowledge Management

The internship supports the Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team in the UN Human Rights/OHCHR Global Operations Division, providing quality information and knowledge services related to human rights. Interns will contribute to the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway, research, content development, and specific workstreams in library management, data science, or communications/knowledge management.

Responsibilities

• Support the Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team in providing quality information and knowledge services in human rights.
• Contribute to the development of the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway and thematic knowledge hubs.
• Support research work and development of content and resources for the OHCHR intranet and knowledge hub.
• Depending on profile, support organization and facilitation of knowledge sharing events, production of knowledge sharing materials, website editing, library guides, knowledge retention and dissemination initiatives.
• Support data science efforts including automating tasks such as subject classification of library assets, tagging websites and documents, and extracting structured information.
• Assist in daily management of the OHCHR Library including cataloguing, indexing, research and reference queries, digitization, client service, and managing physical and online collections.

Requirements

• Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in library science, information science, knowledge management and/or a human rights, law or international relations related field, OR have graduated with a university degree in one of those fields and must commence the internship within one year from graduation.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Knowledge of another United Nations official language - Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish – is an asset.
• Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
• Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
• Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
