Internship in the Division on International Trade and Commodities

The internship position is located in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Division on International Trade and Commodities. The intern will support research, reporting, digital communications, event logistics, knowledge management, and other administrative tasks related to international trade trends and policies.

Responsibilities

• Support the team's data gathering and research initiatives regarding international trade trends, trade policies, the multilateral trading system, South-South trade cooperation and emerging trade-related issues.
• Assist in drafting, editing, and formatting reports, official communications, meeting minutes, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
• Assist in the section's advocacy efforts by drafting web stories, news items, and engaging content for institutional social media channels.
• Assist in organizing meetings, webinars, workshops, and training sessions, including the preparation of necessary background documents.
• Assist in maintaining and organizing internal databases and manage essential data files.
• Perform other related duties and administrative tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
• Should be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• No professional work experience is required for this internship.
• University degree must be in the area of economics, international trade, statistics, international relations or related field.
• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
• Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
• Knowledge of Arabic, French, Spanish or another UN language is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage.
