The internship at UNCTAD involves supporting cooperation and outreach activities with civil society organizations, parliamentarians, and member States. The intern will assist in organizing meetings, preparing communication materials, updating databases, and providing substantive support to intergovernmental machinery activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team in the preparations and organization of CSO and GLS related UNCTAD meetings, briefings, and videoconferencing as needed.
  • Assist in preparing drafts for communication with civil society organizations, parliamentarians and other organizations and replies to inquiries as needed.
  • Assist in preparing draft inputs to outreach material (flyers, electronic mailings etc.).
  • Provide support for the team's outreach efforts to civil society.
  • Assist in the updating of the CSO database and lists to ensure timely and smooth outreach.
  • Attend meetings, as needed, and prepare notes for the file and short reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of substantive background materials for meetings of the G77 and China Regional Group.
  • Assist in drafting reports or taking-down notes/minutes of meetings and coordinating any other administrative requirements for the meetings; including responding to queries from delegates attending.
  • Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization.
  • Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship.
  • Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and the receiving department/office.
  • Do not communicate confidential information without authorization.
  • Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or the receiving department/office.

Requirements

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Applicants must provide proof of their academic status or degree.
  • Fluency in English is required for this internship.
  • Knowledge of French and Spanish is an asset.
  • Interns must have access to a computer with a modern browser and Office 365 applications for remote work.
  • Computer must have latest Microsoft Windows OS, software and security updates installed.
  • Built-in software firewall must be enabled on the computer.
  • Password manager must be enabled for secure access to UNCTAD/UN resources.
  • Interns must observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, and directives.
  • Interns must provide copies of all materials prepared during the internship to the UN.
  • Interns must respect the impartiality and independence of the UN and not accept instructions from external authorities.
  • Interns must not disclose confidential information without authorization.
  • Interns must refrain from conduct that adversely reflects on the UN or the receiving department.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated and must cover their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents may require appropriate visa and work authorization.
  • Applicants related to UN staff members have restrictions on eligibility and supervision.
