Internship for a Population Analyst

The internship in CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC in Santiago (Chile) is designed for a minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 months, full-time, and can be carried out in person, virtually or hybrid. The intern will support population studies by collecting data, analyzing demographic indicators, processing census microdata, and assisting in organizing meetings and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Search, collect, and organize information and reference materials on population issues from various sources.
• Review and prepare detailed summaries of population and demographic studies.
• Generate and analyze demographic and population and development indicators.
• Process censuses and surveys microdata to generate sociodemographic indicators and preliminary analyses using Redatam and R software.
• Support the organization and servicing of meetings, workshops and inter-governmental conferences related to the Division's areas and projects.
• Carry out other tasks as required by the Division.

Requirements

• The basic education required is HS Diploma.
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
• Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
• A field of study closely related to the type of internship is required.
• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme.
• Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
• Good knowledge of R and REDATAM is desirable.
• Ability to draft working documents and papers is highly desirable.
• Candidates must cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship.
• Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
