This internship is located at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Rio de Janeiro, within the Department of Global Communications. The intern will support digital communications, event management, and outreach activities to promote the work of the United Nations in Brazil.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of engaging digital assets for the UN Brazil social media accounts, including short videos, carrousels and cards.
  • Assist in the production of short video content for UN Brazil social media accounts, with a focus on TikTok, including preparing and embedding subtitles in English and Portuguese.
  • Assist in planning interviews with civil society stakeholders and UN partners to produce human-based stories and videos for the UN Brazil website and social media channels.
  • Assist in the development of digital advocacy campaigns covering UN priorities such as climate change, human rights, multilateralism, youth and information integrity, including production of digital assets, drafting copies for social media posts and organizing concept notes and schedules.
  • Assist in research on emerging opportunities to increase UN Brazil’s impact on digital platforms.
  • Assist in the translation of speeches, press releases and articles (English and Portuguese) for the UN Brazil website.
  • Assist in UNIC Rio’s 80th Anniversary Campaign, from planning to implementation, focusing on digital impact and events and partnerships across the country.
  • Assist in photo exhibitions about the UN’s 81st Anniversary in Rio de Janeiro, including curating audio-visual content and supporting identification of partners and funders.
  • Assist in organizing UNIC Rio regular events, such as press conferences and public outreach activities.
  • Assist in outreach efforts with partners and the UN System in Brazil.
  • Assist in mapping potential partners and sponsors in media and civil society.
  • Assist in updating and expanding existing mailing lists.
  • Assist in supporting relationships with suppliers.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Have experience in using basic graphic design tools, such as Canva, and in producing content for digital platforms.
  • Have working knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • The ability to draft Press Releases and/or social media posts is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written Portuguese and intermediate level of English are required.
  • Knowledge of other official languages of the United Nations Secretariat is desirable.
