See your match score & applyThe internship is located in the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications, Sustainable Development and Climate Section. The intern will support communications activities related to climate change and sustainable development, including research, drafting information products, media monitoring, and event organization. The internship is unpaid, full-time, and based in New York.
Responsibilities
- Tracking, researching and analyzing information on topics related to climate change and sustainable development, gathering information from diverse sources and helping assess news value and other potential impact.
- Drafting and compiling specific types of information products for target audiences (print, broadcast, social media, etc).
- Conducting photo and graphic research.
- Assisting with the implementation of DGC’s communications campaigns; identifying and proposing information opportunities, activities and approaches while considering the topic and target audiences.
- Assisting with the organization of events on the SDGs or Climate Action.
- Maintaining and updating media and subscription mailing lists.
- Media monitoring.
- Performing additional tasks assigned by the Team Lead.
Requirements
- Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable.
- Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications; knowledge of information management and design applications such as Trello and Canva are required.
- Knowledge of Office 365 Tools, content management systems and website monitoring tools (especially Drupal and Google Analytics) is required.
- Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
- Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
- Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
- Applicants who have previously served six months, in total, as an intern in one or more UN Entities in the UN Secretariat cannot be engaged as an intern.
- Applicants who are children, siblings, and sons or daughters-in-law (including stepchildren, half-siblings, or stepsiblings) of an active staff member in a UN Secretariat cannot be engaged as an intern.
