This internship is in the Chinese Unit of the Web Services Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Global Communications. The intern will assist with research, content adaptation, website updating, multimedia editing, and data analysis related to the UN's public internet website and related sub sites.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on the web on thematic issues and adapt content for the web by rewriting or translating content from English to Chinese.
  • Assist in updating websites in HTML, SHTML, CSS or on WordPress and/or Drupal.
  • Assist in drafting, formatting, editing and posting original website content/news stories, including graphics, photos and videos.
  • Assist in editing existing videos by providing subtitles or audio, or assist in producing short videos from existing videos.
  • Use multimedia communications and IT/web-related tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, web development programming and scripting languages (PHP, HTML5, CSS3), and digital editing tools to perform tasks.
  • Analyze data and web metrics and produce reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • A completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile) is required; incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • The Cover Note must include: Degree Programme, Graduation Date, explanation of why the candidate is best for this internship, and interest in the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • The Personal History Profile must include all past work experiences, IT skills, and three references.
  • Applicants who are children or siblings of a staff member are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but must have a field of study closely related to the internship.
  • Applicants must provide proof of their degree programme status or completion.
  • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Teams.
  • Ability to draft, format, edit, and post original website content is desirable.
  • Ability to use web-related tools such as Adobe Creative Suite is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
