This internship is located in the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch (PKMCB). The intern will assist in drafting documents, conducting research, attending meetings, and supporting knowledge management related to counter-terrorism and preventing violent extremism. The internship is unpaid, flexible in work location (remote, hybrid, or in-person), and lasts six months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations, slide decks, knowledge products, etc.
  • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings.
  • Gather, select and analyse information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press.
  • Assist in data collection, conduct research and provide analysis on relevant topics.
  • Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining databases.
  • Support the review of key reports and publications.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.
