See your match score & applyThe internship is for 3-6 months, unpaid and full-time, under the supervision of a staff member in the Sustainable Demographic Transition Section. The intern will assist with literature reviews, data analysis, organizing meetings, reviewing reports, developing communication materials, and other duties related to population and social development issues in Asia and the Pacific.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking literature reviews, analysis and compilation of data from secondary sources on population trends and demographic changes and their implications on sustainable development, international migration, population ageing and its impact on sustainable development, including access to social protection for older persons and the rights of older persons, and engaging youth and older persons in implementing the 2030 Agenda.
- Assisting in organizing meetings, including attending to all relevant preparations.
- Reviewing working papers and reports for accuracy and clarity, and editing, if required.
- Developing audio-visual materials, i.e. PowerPoint presentations or info charts, to communicate policy messages to non-technical audiences.
- Analysing data using Excel and other statistical products.
- Creating substantive website content.
- Performing other duties as might be assigned by staff concerned and/or the Chief of Section.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent), preferably in fields such as social studies with data studies; demography; international relations; statistics; human rights law.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
- Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
- Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage, particularly Chinese or Russian.
