Intern - Investment Issues Section, Investment Trends and Issues Branch, DIAE

The internship position is with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, within the Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE). The intern will assist in research, data collection and analysis, event organization, and reporting related to investment and sustainable development issues.

Responsibilities

• Assist in collecting and analyzing data on investment and multinational enterprises for the section’s research studies.
• Assist in the analysis of firm level data and international project finance on green FDI.
• Support research on investment in sustainable development, particularly gender, sustainable tourism and climate change.
• Assist in collecting and analyzing data on the activities of MNEs to identify Private Equity and Venture Capital Investors.
• Assist in organizing events for the World Investment Forum 2026, preparing briefing and presentation materials for senior officials.
• Support preparation and production of articles on investment and development, especially on investment in the digital economy and digital transformation.
• Attend meetings and assist in reporting, writing briefs and other content.
• Assist in preparation of the Division’s and other institutional events and activities related to COP31.
• Observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, instructions, procedures, and directives.
• Provide the receiving departments/offices with copies of all materials prepared during the internship.
• Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and the receiving department/office.
• Do not communicate any non-public information without authorization and do not use such information for personal gain.
• Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or the receiving department/office and avoid incompatible activities.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
• Should be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
• A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
• Knowledge of an additional official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian) is an asset.
• Interns must have a valid visa for in-person internships and cover all costs of travel, accommodation, medical insurance and living expenses.
• Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
• Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
