See your match score & applyThe internship in the Transport Division/Transport Research and Policy Section is up to 6 months, unpaid and full-time. The intern will support research and advocacy on sustainable transport policies, prepare case studies and reports, and assist in day-to-day work of the Division/Section.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on themes such as environmental and social dimension of transport, climate change impacts on transport, reducing emissions from transport, sustainable urban mobility, electric mobility, socially inclusive public transport, resilient transport systems, assessment of state of transport and urban mobility, and advocacy of sustainable transport policies to ESCAP member countries and cities.
- Support in preparing case studies and background materials for planned meetings and workshops on sustainable transport.
- Support in preparing, editing and finalizing research outputs such as policy briefs, blogs, publications, and technical reports of the section.
- Undertake literature review on selected themes, identify research gaps and propose research topics and methods.
- Identify and collect data from primary and secondary sources, select appropriate methodology and conduct analysis of transport development trends in countries/cities.
- Review, analyze and compile collected data and information, prepare reports including findings and conclusions with appropriate tables, graphs, charts and references.
- Prepare presentations on work or findings and outcomes of the internship including lessons learned to the Division's staff.
- Coordinate and liaise with Transport Division staff of ESCAP to identify key issues.
- Prepare infographics and communication material for advocacy of findings.
- Assist in day-to-day work of the Division/Section, support projects, and preparation of meetings/workshops if required.
- Familiarize with administrative work of the Division and other typical UN tasks to a limited extent.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
- Experience in quantitative data analysis, including understanding of transport modelling techniques and methodologies.
- Passionate about compiling, analysing, and disseminating insights from data to inform policymaking processes.
- Interest in research activities.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required to the internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
