ESCWA supports evidence-based policymaking and regional cooperation on population issues in the Arab region, focusing on demographic change, ageing, and migration. The intern will research migration-related laws and policies, analyze findings, and support data entry and report preparation to aid policy development and capacity-building activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on population dynamics, ageing, and migration trends in the Arab region.
  • Support the preparation of reports and policy briefs on demographic and socioeconomic issues.
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing data related to population growth, fertility, ageing, and migration.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Support technical assistance activities aimed at strengthening national policies and strategies on ageing.
  • Assist in organizing capacity-building workshops, training sessions, and high-level meetings.
  • Prepare background materials, presentations, and meeting documentation.
  • Facilitate coordination with government representatives, experts, and development partners on population and ageing-related initiatives.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with a university degree.
  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • No previous work experience is required for this job opening.
  • Applicants must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage to cover the full period of the internship at the duty station and provide a medical certificate of good health prior to the commencement of the internship.
