See your match score & applyThe Information Management Officer will coordinate humanitarian information exchange, manage content on web platforms, develop and manage data tools, conduct data analysis and assessment support, maintain GIS datasets, and produce data visualizations to support humanitarian response efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role is within the Crisis Response Division of OCHA and supports effective humanitarian action through information management.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain an information management working group to facilitate humanitarian information exchange and promote data and information standards.
- Engage with government counterparts to ensure coordination and consistency with national standards and practices.
- Provide training and expertise on information management tools and platforms to OCHA staff and humanitarian partners.
- Advocate for the use of data standards, common platforms, and open exchange of information.
- Manage content on relevant web platforms ensuring quality control and metadata standards compliance.
- Work with external counterparts on related web platforms to facilitate cross-site search and interoperability.
- Design, develop and manage databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools ensuring data quality and consolidation.
- Organize, design and carry out evaluation and analysis of location-specific datasets using statistical techniques.
- Participate in development and revision of data standards and advise on their application.
- Support assessment and needs analysis activities including humanitarian needs overviews and rapid assessments.
- Manage platforms and tools that support data collection and analysis such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Develop and maintain spatial baseline and operational datasets and maintain a repository of spatial data accessible to humanitarian partners.
- Produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics to convey messages and advocacy materials.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information management, information systems, social science or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in information management, information systems, web management, data management, geographic information systems & mapping, data visualization, or other related area is required.
- Experience developing information products in accordance with corporate branding guidelines of a UN agency, international humanitarian organization or similar, is required.
- Experience in the use of industry-standard software, including experience of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign is required.
- Experience managing information in disaster response and health emergencies is desirable.
- Relevant experience within the UN system or an international organization is desirable.
- Experience in the West and central Africa Region is desirable.
- English and French are required at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
