See your match score & applyThe Graphic Design Assistant will participate in design projects for UN-sponsored activities, producing publication-ready artwork and infographics, coordinating production processes, and supporting data visualization and information material updates. The role requires knowledge of graphic design software and printing processes, with responsibility for delivering high-quality graphic materials for various print and digital media.
Responsibilities
- Participates in initial meetings with clients to discuss potential design projects, including substantive content, communication objectives, media, design options, technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines.
- Independently undertakes design assignments for a variety of UN-sponsored activities, conceptualizing and developing design proposals for client review.
- Designs and produces infographics and data visualizations to communicate complex information clearly and engagingly.
- Produces publication-ready artwork and prepares print-ready and accessible digital files for reports, books, conference documents and other UN publications, ensuring compliance with corporate branding, typography, accessibility and production standards.
- Prepares all approved designs in electronic format for final review and printing; reviews color and print proofs as required.
- Provides guidance and support throughout the project production process; coordinates and follows-up with clients and other relevant parties to ensure projects are on schedule.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Performs other related work as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A diploma in graphic design or a related field from a recognized college is an advantage.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, publication design, editorial layout, desktop publishing, print production or digital publication production is required.
- Experience must include the design and production of reports, books, brochures, conference documentation, promotional materials, infographics and other publication products, including page layout, typography, image preparation, preparation of print-ready files, proof review and coordination with printing and publishing production processes is desirable.
- Experience in producing accessible digital publications, interactive PDF publications or other digital publication products is desirable.
- One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- Knowledge of standard industry production and printing processes, including desktop publishing, design and layout.
- Knowledge of internal UN printing practices and operations.
- Knowledge of photography, page layout and photograph sizing.
- Good graphic art skills and demonstrated ability to independently develop creative designs and produce high-quality graphic material for varied print media projects (e.g. posters, brochures, press kits, book covers, book designs, etc.).
- Ability to handle multiple design projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated proficiency in professional graphic design and desktop publishing software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Able to perform analysis, modeling and interpretation of data in support of decision-making.
