See your match score & applyThe GIS Developer will design and develop software applications using GIS technology, contribute technical expertise to requirements analysis, provide detailed documentation and version control, and offer 3rd level application support for geospatial components. The position is based in Deqing, China, within the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology, supporting the digital transformation of the Organization.
Responsibilities
- Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new applications with a Geospatial and/or AI components, using UN established standards.
- Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed GIS systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations.
- Provides support for deployed GIS systems including version management, data recovery and troubleshooting; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests.
- Manage and administer geospatial SQL databases.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new tools and libraries.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of Geospatial systems using ArcGIS is required.
- 3+ years of experience working on ETL for geospatial data is required.
- 3+ years of experience with SQL and geodatabase and Geospatial data management and migration is required.
- 2+ years of experience using Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript for GIS is required.
- Knowledge of Open Source GIS tools such as QGIS is desirable.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the duty station where the position is located.
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
