See your match score & applyThis internship position is located in the Field Operations Finance Division, Office of Programme Planning, Finance and Budget, Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance. The intern will gain professional experience in financial management, financial procedures and practices, and analysis of budgeting, accounting and financial requirements within an international organization.
Responsibilities
- Research and compile historical information relating to mandates, historical expenditure pattern, adopted strategies, economic and social context, as they relate to budget submissions.
- Ensure that resource requirements are in line with the applicable rules and regulations and with the mandates of the Security Council / General Assembly.
- Participate in budget preparation including the consolidation and presentation of programmatic and financial information.
- Monitor the implementation of UN budgets.
- Identify variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
- Generate financial information using databases and spreadsheets.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance or related area.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word are required.
- Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
- For in-person internships in the United States, persons who are not US citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time internship.
- Candidates on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis.
