See your match score & applyThe Field Security Associate assists with the implementation of security operations and management of safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility. This role supports security coordination, monitoring, reporting, training, and administrative tasks to ensure the safety of UN staff and assets in complex environments.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Security Coordination Officer and Area Security Adviser in collecting, updating, and communicating information regarding security situation related to Ebola response in the Area of Responsibility.
- Liaise and coordinate with host government security organizations and personnel including national and local authorities, military, police, and NGOs.
- Assess the security situation at the duty station and ensure adequate gathering and verification of security information for proper analysis.
- Communicate information on security issues to United Nations agencies and provide host country security advice to UNDSS as required.
- Maintain regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN.
- Provide technical assistance at Area/Security Management Team meetings as requested.
- Assist in maintaining the Security Plan including updating staff lists and supporting actions during implementation.
- Monitor the implementation of security measures recommended in the Security Risks Management process for the Area of Responsibility.
- Report security incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets and assist in preparation of security reports.
- Support organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness and provide security orientation to new staff members.
- Conduct security briefings as required.
- Provide support in conducting security evaluations and advice on Residential Security Measures for UN staff.
- Establish and maintain warden system and update information related to UN offices and residences.
- Manage Field Missions, road and physical security assessments of hotels and premises.
- Support security training.
- Provide general administrative assistance including maintaining correspondence files, databases on host country security contacts, arranging appointments, receiving visitors, screening telephone calls, and taking minutes at meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required.
- The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required.
- Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
- English and French are required at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Possession of a valid driver's license for the Democratic Republic of the Congo is required.
- Appropriate testing, as determined by the Secretariat may be required.
- Travel within and outside of the country may be required.
