Field Interpreter (multiple positions)

Provide simultaneous interpretation between English and one of the Myanmar languages (Burmese, Rohingya, Rakhine) for meetings, interviews, and similar processes. Support the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) including participation in missions and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide simultaneous interpretation in English and Burmese, Rohingya or Rakhine languages, for the purpose of meetings, interviews, or similar processes.
• Participate in, and assist in the preparation and conduct of, missions by the IIMM.
• Maintain strict security and confidentiality of information obtained during the conduct of the assignment.
• Accompany IIMM staff on mission as required.

Requirements

• A first level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent degree) in interpretation/translation or related fields is required.
• A university certificate or a diploma in any other field with additional 2 years of relevant professional experience in interpretation/translation may be accepted in lieu of a university degree.
• Certification/Registration in a recognized registry of court interpreters at the national or international level is desirable.
• A minimum of four (4) year of experience in interpreting from one of the languages of Myanmar (Burmese, Rohingya or Rakhine) into English, and vice versa, is required.
• Experience providing interpretation or translation services in support of criminal investigations or related subjects is desirable.
• Experience working in field missions within the United Nations Common System or other international organizations is desirable.
• Candidates currently residing in Australia are strongly encouraged to apply; residence in Australia is considered an asset.
